I Just Ate 14 Cookies.

In approximately an hour and a half. Watching House M.D. (love that show).

Why did I do this? Well, it happens to be my special time of the month, hah hah, and I've been craving chocolate and sugar all day. Also, they were there and I was bored.

My friends are out drinking tonight, but I have a bunch of things I have to get done tomorrow, so I decided not to go with them. Right now I am regretting this decision (especially since I ate 14 cookies haha) and wishing I had gone out. Tomorrow, however, they will be regretting it and I can plug away at an essay that I must write.

And so I consult my blog. I am already getting used to updating it with daily postings. It's already become a good friend of mine, someone I can lean on for support.

Also, writing in this blog prevents me from eating 15 or 20 cookies. Hahah, oh willpower, won't let you lend me a hand? Won't you present yourself, you chicken?

When was the last time you ate copious amounts of junk food, and what type of junk food? Tomorrow it'll be easy to get back on track, but right now I am feeling a little bored/down in the dumps. Time to find something to do! :)

REAL "Diet" Tips

Okay, first of all, the word "diet" is just going to set you up for failure. When people hear the word "diet," they think that they have to eat less and be unhappy. No, it never works out well when you start out like that.

Below I have some awesome tips (to help you get healthy!) - (that have worked for me in the past, anyways):

1. Become really busy. When you are extremely busy, you don't really have time to worry about food (or even eat.)

2. Start a new relationship. When you are with someone and all you can think about (or obsess about, which was my case) is him, you don't really have time to think about food either.

3. Just do it. If you do "well" the first day, the next day will be even easier. And the next day easier. Until you binge, and then you have to start again, but I'm just saying. It might be hard to pass on the pie right now, but if you are offered it again the next day, it will be much easier to say no. Strength = confidence = ability.

4. Eat what you want when you want (mostly). Again, you will not be thinking of the food you have not eaten when you HAVE eaten exactly what you wanted. When food is not on your mind (or your "diet,") it is much easier to appreciate the rest of life and not think about how much your thighs are expanding under your jeans.

5. If you binge, try not to think about it. Start a new activity - read, paint, better yet - something productive that makes you feel good about yourself and gives you the strength to eat well that day and get back on track.

6. Keep reading my blog. I will insert more tips and give some (hopefully) useful advice =).

GOOD LUCK!

And here's a picture of someone with a body to motivate you... (if you are motivated visually)

PS Number 1 & 2 are me half-joking. Please don't take offense.

If You've Obviously Dyed Your Hair, Why Do People Ask?

So yesterday I was talking on the phone to the boyfriend, and we were discussing hair colours, makeup, etc (I know, lucky him right? hahaha).

I recently went from having blonde hair to black hair, and the most common question that I was asked happened to be:

"Did you dye your hair?"

Well.... considering that my hair was pretty much white before, and now it's almost completely black.... well I guess hair DOES tend to change colour dramatically when you count more than 200 sheep jumpin over that good ol' fence....

OF COURSE I DYED MY HAIR.

Mind you, I have probably been guilty of asking this same question... but it just leaves me wondering... why don't people just say, "oh, you dyed your hair." Is it more polite to ask it in the form of a question?

What do you think?

I Like to Eat Muffins in the Morning

One of my favourite things to do in the morning is get out of bed, keep my PJs on, put on a jacket, and walk to the nearest cafeteria to pick up the biggest, freshest muffins.

Today was one of those special "Muffin Days" and the flavour of choice was blueberry.

As I returned to my safe haven, took off my shoes, and plopped onto a nice, big chair, I slowly unwrapped the muffin out of its package. As usual, I began to eat the muffin top first.

For some reason, the crispy top of the muffin is by far the greatest part. It tastes almost like crunchy cake, and leaves you feeling pretty satisfied.

Rituals like this help me appreciate food for what it is - fuel for our bodies, and one of the riches of the world.

I Set My Scale Three Pounds Lower

So I was talking to my friend Jason today.
I asked him if he thought I gained any weight over the winter break.
Being nice and a gentleman, he told me that he didn't notice anything.
Sometimes I wonder why I ask people stupid questions like this...
Anyways, we begun discussing how much I weighed, and I let him in on a little secret...

I set my scale three pounds below zero.

And it works.
It makes me feel a lot better than when I set it to zero.
Why?
I don't know, but as soon as I see the number on the scale, and it's a lower number, I get insta happy.
Stupid, sure. But it's what happens every time.

Try it and let me know how it makes you feel.

An Introduction to My Blog

So this morning I woke up and was delighted to realize that I hadn't eaten for more than twelve hours.
The past week or so, all I have been doing is sitting on the couch watching movies and stuffing my face. What a "pleasant surprise" it was yesterday morning to put on my favourite jeans and realize that instead of the usual bagginess, they were clinging to my thighs like a fat kid on cake.
Ahem. Pardon the reference. ;)
This obsession with weight and attractiveness is not only a problem for me. Many people call it a silly obsession. An obsession that is talked about way too often. And perhaps it is.
Yet, every day, I think about that number on the scale at least once. And more than once I have been too scared to step on it and see what it is.
I am an average looking person with an average weight. If I asked my friends if they considered me thin, they would only say "you look healthy."
Healthy. What an insult. Lol. Really, I should be satisfied with having enough food to eat and the ability to exercise. Yet, as soon as I hear the word "healthy," I shudder.
Sure, right now you are rolling your eyes and revelling at how much stronger and down to earth you are. But I assure you, many women share this problem with me.
There are much bigger issues circling around the world, and yet, if you reach for a magazine or log onto msn news, the titles will be "lose those five stubborn pounds" or "next month see the fitter, skinnier you!"
I do not write to you today to preach the awesomeness of being skinny. I write to you today to let you know that you are not alone in your sad obsession with the number on the scale.
